Tom has been working as a tennis coach at a luxury all-inclusive resort on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura for almost ten years. His days consist of teaching; his evenings consist of going out, drinking too much, and a whole lot of one-night stands. But he’s grown tired of this routine. When the Maguire family arrives, Tom becomes involved in their lives. Anne and Dave take him out to dinner and insist that he give their son private lessons. But after a night out, everything changes...
German director Jan-Ole Gerster makes his English-language film debut with Islands. In this intense, sultry thriller, nothing is what it seems; Gerster masterfully plays with the viewer's expectations. One thing becomes very clear: even if you are on vacation in the most idyllic place, you cannot escape your problems.
