In real life, Suzu is an insecure teenager living in a small town with her father. But when she goes online in the virtual world of "U," she becomes Belle, a successful singer with billions of followers.
Language: Japanese subtitles: English
Since no one knows that the shy Suzu is the true face behind the pop idol, she becomes more and more entangled in this double life. Through her encounter with the Beast, a mysterious creature within "U," her online and offline lives increasingly converge. Suzu goes in search of the Beast and together they discover what it means to be yourself.
This poetic beautiful anime deserves a big screen. Belle is the visually stunning new film from Japanese animation director Mamoru Hosoda and asks interesting questions like what would happen if digital avatars were truer reflections of the self?
Prepare to be enchanted.
This film program is a collaboration with Kinjin, the Japanese culture association for students in Eindhoven.
On Wednesday there will be a follow-up discussion after the film in restaurant De Zwarte Doos.
