An aspiring actor undergoes a radical medical procedure to drastically transform his appearance, but his new dream-face quickly turns into a nightmare.

Genre: drama, dark comedy, thriller
Language: English, subtitles: English
Length: 1h 52m

Ambitious New York actor Edward undergoes radical surgery to drastically transform his appearance. As a result, much changes in his life - and yet everything remains disturbingly the same. Although his appearance has completely changed, he is still not who he wants to be. When the role of a lifetime comes his way, Edward's new dream-face turns into a nightmare.

Impressive performances by Sebastian Stan, who previously transformed into Trump for The Apprentice and now undergoes another striking transformation to portray neurofibromatosis, and by Adam Pearson.

Get ready for this black-comedy morality play by director Schimberg that comes across as especially surreal and unsettling.

Awards
Sebastian Stan won Best Leading Performance at the Berlin International Film Festival and took home a Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. The film also received nominations for Best Film in Berlin and Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the Academy Awards.

Reviews

“A Different Man mulls how cinema – and art more broadly – deals with disfigurement but has even more fun holding its audience’s toes to the coals.” The Telegraph

“There’s some John Carpenter in this film, and some Woody Allen, and some John Cassavetes, and a healthy dose of Charlie Kaufman-style surreality. The result is shrewd, and fantastic, and something all its own.” The New York Times

“A movie that’s about—and asks its lead to literally and figuratively wear—masks, A Different Man is a multifaceted meta mind-melter.” The Daily Beast
