Monday, May 18 , 12:40 PM - 1:20 PM
Blauwe Zaal, Auditorium
Price: Free (Student) Free (Others)

We are thrilled to kick off this year’s Storioni Festival right here at TU/e! Get ready for a musical treat: works by Rachmaninoff and Chopin, brought to life by musicians from both the old and the next generation.

Two masterpieces brimming with passion and lyrical intensity open this program.

In his Trio “Elégiaque” No. 1, Sergei Rachmaninoff immediately reveals what would later make him world-famous. Through its compelling melodies, emotional depth, and triumphant finale, the sonata offers a journey of resilience and renewal—and invites the audience to experience their own moment of rebirth.

Frédéric Chopin’s Cello Sonata in G minor, Op. 65, showcases Chopin’s extraordinary genius. The emotional interplay between cello and piano creates an expressive atmosphere that captivates the listener from the very first note.

Performing artists

Storioni Trio

Bart van de Roer – Piano
Wouter Vossen – Violin
Marc Vossen – Cello

The Storioni Trio, founded in 1995, is internationally recognized as one of the leading piano trios. Named after Wouter Vossen’s 1794 Storioni violin, the ensemble combines tradition with a strong artistic identity.

Based in Brabant, they co-founded the Storioni Festival in 2007 with Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, now an internationally renowned chamber music festival. They have collaborated with artists such as Krzysztof Penderecki and Pekka Kuusisto.

Early in their career, they worked closely with the Vermeer Quartet, Isaac Stern, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Menahem Pressler. Winning the Kersjes Prize in 2000 marked their international breakthrough.

Today, the trio is known for its refined musicianship, experience, and enduring musical passion.

Duo Alyosha

Manon Leroux – Cello
Alexandre Lutz – Piano

Duo Alyosha, based in Amsterdam, is a cello–piano duo blending classical sonata repertoire with contemporary perspectives in expressive, engaging performances.

Manon Leroux and Alexandre Lutz met at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where they quickly formed a close musical partnership. Their playing is defined by flexibility, sensitivity, and energy.

As prizewinners of the Storioni Festival Competition 2025 (First Prize and Young Jury Prize), they are a duo to watch. They have worked with renowned musicians Denis Brott and Yovan Markovitch, and have presented their program Escapade Fictive with Amarte and Studio 150.
