Last week, Eindhoven-based singer-songwriter Woody Veneman joined us for Americana Guitars, a lecture-performance about the stories, sounds, and traditions behind Americana music.
Through live music and personal storytelling, Woody explored how genres like folk, blues, country, and bluegrass developed over time and influenced one another. Using different guitars and playing techniques, he showed how music travels across cultures and generations, connecting people through shared stories and sounds.
Along the way, he introduced the musicians, traditions, and guitar styles that helped shape the genre, offering both guitar fans and newcomers a fresh perspective on the music.
Some reactions from visitors:
"I honestly loved it, I was learning to play guitar and that presentation made it really clear what type of strings I should play and what suits me. Thanks again."
"I loved that it was partially theoretical and practical as well as he related his story with the singing and playing."
"I loved the music. Non-conventional music like this must be played sometimes in SG."
"I can't play guitar at all, but now I feel like I actually know something about it!"
