Zero experience and a lot of guts. That's what Rector Frank Baaijens, Alderman Culture Monique List, Cursor editor Norbine Schalij and Master student Evelien Nieuwenburg had when they conducted the jubilee Ensuite on December 8, 2019 in the impressive hall of the Atlas main building on the TU/e campus.
The aspiring conductors had received four coaching sessions from Bart Partouns, the conductor of Ensuite. A jury of three persons (including Philips Symphony Orchestra conductor Jules van Hessen) judged the maestros and chose the winner. It turned out to be a neck-and-neck race, but culture alderman Monique List was eventually allowed to call herself the deserved winner and Maestra.
