Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning are revolutionizing our economy and our society. AI based systems are finding applications in marketing, sales, healthcare, finances, education, transportation, logistics and even in scientific research. Machine learning, a technology that is at the core of recent AI developments, enables computers to learn from experience and opens the way to even more radical changes in the way we interact with machines. Soon, AI based systems may replace a significant fraction of human workers in many jobs and functions. At the same time though these systems also create new jobs and opportunities.
Prof. dr. Arlindo Oliveira will go into what AI will mean for the knowledge and skills you will need in the future and what this implies for how and what universities should teach. Arlindo Oliveira is president of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in Lisbon (Portugal) and professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IST.
This lecture is organized in cooperation with the TU/e Center for Humans & Technology and EAISI (Eindhoven AI Systems Institute). The lecture is also part of the symposium From blackboard to black box; education and learning in the age of AI.
