We all love to travel. Whether it’s pitching your tent close to home or backpacking across the globe, stepping into a new environment opens your eyes to a different world. But how do we travel in a way that respects the people and places we visit, and maybe even gives something back?
TV presenter and world traveler Nienke de la Rive Box (known from tv travel program 3 op Reis) joins us for an open conversation about meaningful travel. How can we truly connect with another culture without disrupting it? What does it mean to be a respectful guest in someone else’s home? Drawing on her experiences from the icy north of Greenland to the warmth of Africa, Nienke shares inspiring stories and lessons for anyone eager to explore the world with curiosity and care. We’ll have an open conversation where you can ask questions and gain insight into traveling sustainably.
Student Take-Over
This program is part of SG Student Take-Over; a Studium Generale initiative by students, for students. Every now and then, we hand over the stage (and the spotlight) to you, the students. You get full creative freedom to create your own SG program using our resources and platform. Got a great idea? Pitch it to us; you might be the next one to take over.
This edition is curated by Kez van Aaken, a fourth-year student who loves to travel, and will soon set off to South America for a long backpacking trip:
“After traveling to Morocco for more than 2 weeks at the start of 2025, my eyes were opened to what a new culture could bring me. I did not know what to expect from the culture, whether I should be scared or embrace the culture. I chose the second option, which left me unforgettable memories with local people, feeling welcome from the moment I got there. This inspired me to seek this feeling more often, finding new cultures that would amaze me, by joining them in their traditions, not judging on what I did not know. I also wanted to share this experience, which will hopefully open your eyes as well, so you can find the same experiences I have had, and will find in the near future.”
