Imagine an afternoon spent stepping outside your routine—away from solving equations, writing reports, or scrolling through social media. Picture yourself making a tangible difference by providing companionship to the elderly and people with disabilities who face challenges in maintaining social contacts, or by raising awareness about the situation of the homeless.
Sign up for one of the four Social Heroes activities, and for just one afternoon, offer your kindness, companionship, and support, creating meaningful connections that transcend the everyday.

You can register for the activity “Gardening at Wasven Care Farm” via this webpage. To sign up for one of the other three Social Heroes activities, visit their respective web pages.

This is more than just volunteering—it’s an opportunity to broaden your perspective, step out of your world and learn from others whose lives might be very different from your own. Engage in conversations that inspire and challenge you in unexpected ways.

There are four activities to choose from:

  1. Gardening at Wasven care farm
  2. Street tour with former homeless people

Location: Wasven, Celebeslaan 30, Eindhoven
Time: 12:30 - 16:30

Who and why?
Het Wasven is a place where nature, culture, and community come together in a truly unique and meaningful way. Located in the heart of Eindhoven, this 26-hectare haven of natural and cultural heritage offers stunning landscapes steeped in history. Het Wasven is cared for by a dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and participants with care needs, all working to preserve biodiversity and maintain this valuable area.

The historic farmhouse houses a bakery, a small shop, a coffee roastery, and a cozy café where visitors can enjoy homemade products. Here, you don’t just taste quality; you feel the deep connection to nature and the community. It’s also a place for growth and learning, with opportunities for training and day programs. Het Wasven is more than just a location—it’s a vibrant community where everyone is welcome, and where nature and people coexist harmoniously through care, work, and enjoyment. And you can contribute to this beautiful mission!

What will you do?
You’ll help maintain and improve the area. Activities include weeding, clearing paths, creating new pathways, pruning, and setting up vegetable garden beds. There’s plenty to do! While working, you can enjoy the fresh air and engage in friendly conversations.

This activity can be done with fellow students or in collaboration with newcomers from organizations like the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) and the Emergency Shelter (CNO). Working together fosters real connections and meaningful interactions.

Practical Information
Het Wasven provides all necessary tools for gardening and maintenance, but it’s important to bring your own appropriate clothing and footwear. Think of full-coverage clothing, such as long pants and a long-sleeved T-shirt (to protect against tall grass and insects), and keep in mind that you might get dirty. Don’t forget your gardening gloves if you have them!

Dinnertime
At the end of the day, from approximately 17:00 – 19:00, you’ll join fellow participants at Seats2Meet on StrijpS to share stories, insights, and laughter over a delicious dinner and drinks. We ask for a small contribution of €5 towards the cost of the dinner, which is included in the registration price.
