Imagine an afternoon spent stepping outside your routine—away from solving equations, writing reports, or scrolling through social media. Picture yourself making a tangible difference by providing companionship to the elderly and people with disabilities who face challenges in maintaining social contacts, or by raising awareness about the situation of the homeless.
Sign up for one of the four Social Heroes activities, and for just one afternoon, offer your kindness, companionship, and support, creating meaningful connections that transcend the everyday.
You can register for the activity “Creating Spring Crafts with the Elderly” via this webpage. To sign up for one of the other three Social Heroes activities, visit their respective web pages.
This is more than just volunteering—it’s an opportunity to broaden your perspective, step out of your world and learn from others whose lives might be very different from your own. Engage in conversations that inspire and challenge you in unexpected ways.
There are four activities to choose from:
- Creating spring crafts with the elderly
- Gardening at Wasven care farm
- Street tour with former homeless people
- The big student bingo with the eldery

Location: Archipel Dommelhoef
Time: 13:30 - 16:30
Who and why?
Dommelhoef is a unique care facility providing specialized support, housing, and well-being services for individuals with somatic (chronic physical) conditions or disabilities, such as acquired brain injuries, multiple sclerosis (MS), or Parkinson's disease.
For many residents of care facilities, social isolation can be a real challenge due to limited mobility and few visitors. By dedicating just a few hours, you can brighten someone’s day. This is a simple, meaningful way to bring warmth and attention where it’s needed most. Together, we’ll foster connection and positivity.
To participate in this activity, it is important that you have a sufficient knowledge of the Dutch language.
What will you do?
This afternoon is all about creativity and connection. Alongside the residents, you’ll create beautiful spring-themed crafts. As you work with your hands, conversations naturally flow—some residents may eagerly share their life stories, while others quietly enjoy the shared activity. Above all, it’s about offering vitamin A: Attention!
Dinnertime
At the end of the day, from approximately 17:00 – 19:00, you’ll join fellow participants at Seats2Meet on StrijpS to share stories, insights, and laughter over a delicious dinner and drinks. We ask for a small contribution of €5 towards the cost of the dinner, which is included in the registration price.
Social Heroes: Creating Spring Crafts with the Elderly is a collaboration between Social Heroes Stehven, Samen voor Eindhoven, Archipel Dommelhoef and Studium Generale.
