Language: Norwegian, English subtitles
During the school break, 13-year-old Lykke, daughter of an MP (Member of Parliament), gives her classmate Jamie, son of a populist politician, such a hard smack that he falls down unconscious and later dies. What caused this terrible event to happen and why was supervision inadequate? The school management, parents and pupils have to find a way to deal with this event, which is complicated by accusations, speculations and opposing versions of the event. This creates an impressive fresco of life at a school, the world of thirteen-year-olds and their parents, relationships that are under pressure and feelings of guilt that one will have to live with.
The Norwegian director and scriptwriter Dag Johan Haugerud uses the school as a lab for his social experiment. He is like a researcher who analyzes the behavior of the teachers, parents and children involved.
The film received the Amanda Award for best Norwegian film at the Norwegian International Film Festival in August 2020.
“…It is an inspiring reflection about the intricacy of education from an adult perspective. It questions the innocence of one’s childhood in a captivating way. Human relationships are portrayed with sensitivity and subtlety.”
From the jury report of the Götenborg Film festival where the film was awarded ‘Best Nordic Film 2020’.
