Minimal Consciousness sold out

Dr. Athena Demertzi & Willemijn van Erp
Wednesday, May 30 2012, 11:45 AM - 1:00 PM (sold out)
Blauwe Zaal Auditorium

Patients who recover from coma can find themselves in various states of disordered consciousness . Unresponsive patients (widely known as in a vegetative state) are not aware  of themselves and their environment. With the aid of neuro-imaging and electrophysiological technologies some of them might exhibit atypical brain function or even respond to commands, not detectable at the bedside. Such revolutionary applications eventually raise more questions than they were initially supposed to answer.

Dr. Athena Demertzi (University of Liege) and Willemijn van Erp MSc(UMC St Radboud Nijmegen) will discuss the scientific, clinical, and ethical challenges stemming from such clinical studies.
