Mosquitoes may be tiny creatures, but their impact on world history is huge. Bart Knols is a world-renowned specialist on mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit. He shares insights about the fascinating world of these maddening blood-suckers, but also tells about his life’s quest to develop new methods to end dengue and malaria; mosquito-borne diseases that kill more than 700 thousand people every year.
Bart Knols is medical entomologist (insect specialist) and vector biologist. As a co-founder of the company In2Care, he works on the development of products against malaria and dengue. Knols is praised for his out-of-the-box research, his passion and endless enthusiasm. In 2006 he received the Ig Nobel prize for showing that the female malaria mosquito Anopheles gambiae is attracted equally to the smell of limburger cheese and to the smell of human feet.
