All you need is love. Especially within a relationship we hope to find the one person that completes us. But are we fooling ourselves? Bestselling author Jan Geurtz reveals the origins of our constant search for love and approval.

In his book Addicted to Love, Jan Geurtz explains how we're looking for others to give us the idea of 'real love’. But often real love is subtly replaced by a mutual need for approval. We try to complete ourselves using other people's confirmation, but this is counterproductive: it actually makes us more insecure and therefore increasingly dependent. This creates an addiction to love, approval and the security of a relationship. As a result, most romantic relationships eventually fail.

Inspired by Buddhism, Geurtz shows there is a way out of this vicious circle: by learning to love yourself. In an inspiring way he will make his book come to life in this interactive lecture.

Jan Geurtz has written several books on addiction, including the bestseller Quit Smoking in One Day. He has a background in remedial pedagogy, education sciences and philosophy of science.

A collaboration between TINT and Studium Generale.
