The groundbreaking dance performances of Another Kind of Blue are successful all around the world. In their work, they explore the relationship between humans and technology.
One of the most stunning parts of this evening, which shows five different choreographies, is the famous performance Airman. Airman is an exhilarating duo performance between mankind and technology in which the human consciousness is explored. For Airman, a motion-capture operating system was developed that can control twelve drones simultaneously, and these drones have a unique live interaction with the dancer. To create this performance, choreographer David Middendorp collaborated not only with his dancers, but also with a team of software developers, researchers and mathematical engineers. A small group of TU/e students was also involved in the creation of the technology specifically made for this performance.
Another Kind of Blue
Another Kind of Blue was founded by David Middendorp in 2014. David combines his love of technology with his experience as a dancer and choreographer. David’s work has been performed at festivals such as Cannes Film Festival, Lowlands, de Parade, Oerol and at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. In 2014, he reached the Finale of America’s Got Talent.
